Liver microsomes contain cytochromes P450, flavin-monooxygenases, carboxylesterases, epoxide hydrolase, UDP-glucuronosyltransferases and other drug-metabolizing enzymes, and are intended for use in
in vitro studies of xenobiotic metabolism.
The S9 fraction is a mixture of microsomes and cytosol. Accordingly, it contains a wide variety of Phase 1 and Phase 2 enzymes including P450 enzymes, flavin-monooxygenases, carboxylesterases, epoxide hydrolase, UDP-glucuronosyltransferases, sulfotransferases, methyltransferases, acetyltransferases, glutathione S‑transferases and other drug-metabolizing enzymes.
Liver cytosol contains many xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes including carboxylesterases, soluble epoxide hydrolases, alcohol dehydrogenases, aldehydes oxidases, xanthine oxidases, diamine oxidases, sulfotransferases, glutathione S‑transferases, etc.

ORIGIN The NZW rabbit was obtained in 1991 by Charles River Canada (CRC) from Kitayama Labs K.K. of Nagano Prefecture, Japan. The colony had been rederived by Kitayama Labs in 1985.
