Liver microsomes contain cytochromes P450, flavin-monooxygenases, carboxylesterases, epoxide hydrolase, UDP-glucuronosyltransferases and other drug-metabolizing enzymes, and are intended for use in in vitro studies of xenobiotic metabolism.
The S9 fraction is a mixture of microsomes and cytosol. Accordingly, it contains a wide variety of Phase 1 and Phase 2 enzymes including P450 enzymes, flavin-monooxygenases, carboxylesterases, epoxide hydrolase, UDP-glucuronosyltransferases, sulfotransferases, methyltransferases, acetyltransferases, glutathione S-transferases and other drug-metabolizing enzymes.
Liver cytosol contains many xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes including carboxylesterases, soluble epoxide hydrolases, alcohol dehydrogenases, aldehydes oxidases, xanthine oxidases, diamine oxidases, sulfotransferases, glutathione S-transferases, etc.
